Humanities
Our humanities program blends literature, history, writing, and the arts in order to explore and learn about the human experience in our diverse world. Through the use of thematic units that incorporate technology, humanities provides students with a rich opportunity to become open-minded readers, writers and thinkers.

Daily homework will be in the student's agenda and on Schoology.
Trimester One
The Beginnings of Human Society – Students will become archaeologists and analyze artifacts. They will learn how artifacts can teach us about the past.
Fertile Crescent – Students will complete interactive lessons that correlate with each topic: geography/trade, writing/school, and laws.
Ancient Greece - Students will be reading, analyzing, and discussing The Lightning Thief, analyzing Greek Myths, discussing the hero's journey, and looking at key elements of myths.
Informative Writing - Students will read non-fiction and fiction texts in order to write an Analytical Mini-Essay about the key elements and themes of mythology.
Narrative Writing - Students will create a hero and take them on a journey in their narrative writing piece.
Trimester Two
Ancient Egypt - Students will be researching daily life, achievements, religion, and government in Ancient Egypt. They will choose what type of informative project they want to create (Brochure, Newspaper, PowerPoint). Students will also analyze the roles of men, women, and children in Ancient Egypt.
Argumentative Writing - Students will research environmental issues and then write an argumentative piece to explain their point of view.
Ancient Rome - Students will be doing literature circles. Books will include See You Later, Gladiator, Detectives in Togas, and Tiger, Tiger. While reading students will be learning about Ancient Rome, analyzing characters, discussing the plot, and working on vocabulary strategies.
